Commitment to Animal Welfare
As an aquaculture company, we have a responsibility to provide high-quality fish every day to millions of consumers. Without aquaculture, there wouldn’t be enough fish for everyone, as we supply a significant portion of the fish consumed in our country.
Ensuring the welfare of fish throughout their entire life cycle and across all production stages is an essential commitment that goes hand in hand with our responsibilities regarding quality, safety, and sustainability. That’s why we work closely with APROMAR to develop and implement improvements in animal welfare that go even beyond the legally required standards.
Within this framework, and as a result of collaborative work among aquaculture companies, technical experts from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the General Secretariat for Fisheries, scientists and researchers from three universities, and other NGOs interested in animal welfare, the Spanish aquaculture sector has successfully published three guides on fish welfare in Spanish aquaculture, and is currently working on a fourth.
These guides, created and validated with scientific rigor and evidence by all key stakeholders, truly represent our commitment—both as a company and as a sector—to the best practices that science and technology can offer to ensure the welfare of the fish in our facilities.
